Have you ever repeatedly told yourself not to do something, and then when the big moment came, you did the exact thing you were trying not to do?
Yep, that’s what I did. But it’s OK.
A few weeks ago, I was a guest on the Pete on Software podcast. Every week, Pete either shares his thoughts on software development or interviews someone in the industry to give a perspective. I enjoy Pete’s podcast because it’s well edited, thoughtful advice from a veteran software developer.
From the time he invited me on the show to actual recording was very short – maybe 24 hours.
What was the thing I didn’t want to do? I didn’t want to ramble on about my opinions. But I did.
My goal with this blog, my newsletter, or any content I produce is to give value to the listener or reader. Most of the time, my opinion isn’t very valuable. We’ve all listened to interviews where the interviewee rambled on about their thoughts on unimportant questions, and it’s the quickest way to lose peoples’ interest.
However, the interview is still really good – Pete asked great questions, and I gave a brain dump of some of my best experiences and advice for people considering being freelancers. If you skip through the ramble-y parts, there are some good chunks of advice about pricing, remote work and freelancing.
Check out the interview, and feel free to ask a question on Pete’s site. And thanks for reading!

5 Feb 2015Don’t be so hard on yourself. I thought you did really well and you gave good answers. I didn’t feel you were “ramble-y” at all. Thanks for coming on and thanks for the nice writeup!
